Lyric CEO, Raj Ronanki, Presents at Ted AI 2023
Speaking at the 2023 TEDAI event, Lyric CEO Rajeev Ronanki shares a forward-looking vision where AI mastery defines the winners of tomorrow’s healthcare world. He references Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek as an early source of inspiration for technology dreams that ultimately became reality. Now, Raj sees artificial intelligence as a generational technology that’s growing exponentially—much like Moore’s Law—and rapidly unlocking new possibilities.
Despite AI’s vast promise, healthcare lags behind more tech-savvy industries. Rising costs, poor quality, and limited access define today’s status quo. Raj urges leaders to embrace imagination, purpose, and careful strategy in adopting AI. He acknowledges complexity: organizations must consider data quality, governance, ethics, workforce upskilling, and organizational redesign. Turning AI initiatives into something that aligns with a clear purpose—like Lyric’s goal of simplifying the business of care—ensures everyone in the company owns the AI journey, not just a handful of data scientists.
He advises against starting only with moonshot projects. Instead, combine practical “singles and doubles” with ambitious efforts. Another core principle is rethinking operating models. Past industrial revolutions taught us that merely swapping old tools for new ones won’t suffice. We must change how work is done. Finally, Raj emphasizes building platforms, not just point solutions, to orchestrate supply and demand for care in ways similar to how rideshare platforms optimize transportation.
In Raj’s view, the path to a better healthcare ecosystem involves imagination, deliberate planning, and human-AI collaboration. With the right frameworks, AI can foster more proactive, predictive, and personalized care—bridging data silos and improving patient experiences across the board.
